1. Who we are
Makutano Journeys is a marketplace where Tanzanian tour operators publish the journeys they run. It is operated by Makutano, Arusha and Dar es Salaam, Tanzania. You can reach us at pastory@makutano.co.tz or on +255 752 093 014.
2. Browsing this site
You can read every page here without giving us anything. We do not run analytics, advertising pixels or third-party trackers, and we do not build a profile of what you looked at.
One thing is stored in your own browser: the shortlist behind the Compare button, so the journeys you picked survive moving between pages. It stays on your device, we never receive it, and clearing your browser data removes it.
3. When you send an enquiry
The enquiry form asks for exactly these, and nothing else:
- Your first and last name
- Your email address and phone number
- The country you are travelling from
- Your intended start date, and how many adults and children
- Whatever you choose to write in the message
That enquiry goes to the operator who published the journey. They are the ones who reply, quote and run the trip, so they receive what you sent and become responsible for it as their own customer record. We pass it on and keep a copy so the conversation has somewhere to live.
4. What we do not do
- We do not sell your details, and we do not pass them to anyone but the operator you enquired with.
- We do not take card numbers on this site. Any payment is arranged with the operator directly.
- We do not send marketing email to people who only sent an enquiry.
- We do not use your enquiry to train models.
5. Who else is involved
- Our hosting and database providers, to run the site and store the enquiry.
- Meta Platforms, if the operator replies to you on WhatsApp — that conversation is on WhatsApp's own infrastructure and subject to their terms.
- Our email provider, to deliver notifications about your enquiry.
Each receives only what it needs to do that job, and none may use it for their own purposes.
6. How long it is kept
An enquiry is kept while it is live and afterwards as part of the operator's business records — they may be required to keep it for tax or accounting reasons. If you want your enquiry deleted, ask us and we will remove our copy and pass the request to the operator.
7. Your rights
You can ask what we hold about you, ask for it to be corrected, or ask for it to be deleted. Write to pastory@makutano.co.tz. We will need enough detail to find the enquiry — usually the email address you used and roughly when you sent it.
8. Reviews
If you travelled and we invite you to write a review, that invitation carries a single-use link tied to your booking. A published review shows your first name and what you wrote. It does not show your email, your phone number or what you paid.
9. Changes
If this policy changes, the date at the top changes with it. We do not make changes quietly and backdate them.
